Notes: 2005/06 saw Barnsley achieve promotion through the play-offs after finishing 5th in the league.  After overturning a first leg deficit and winning 3-1 away from home, the play-off final finished 2-2 after extra time, meaning a penalty shootout. Keeper Nick Colgan became the Tyke's hero as he saved Swansea's final penalty to give the club a 4–3 victory and a place in the Championship.
