City played a pre-season friendly with Barcelona to officially open the stadium with the Blues winning 2-1 thanks to goals from Anelka and Sinclair. City couldn’t translate this to league form though with City avoiding relegation by just 8 points, thanks in part to top scorer Nicolas Anelka’s goals, who scored 16 league goals, 24 in all competitions.
